Asset protection is typically believed to be “reserved” for only the ultra wealthy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Asset protection, and specifically, international asset protection, can be utilized by all and, is truly mandatory, for some.

In highly litigious societies, for high risk occupations and protection against the “Ex’s” (Ex Spouse, Ex Partner, ExAssociate, etc.), asset protection can be delivered in a variety of forms. From equity draining, to bullet proof trust structures, there are typically pretty clearly defined solutions given one’s needs and budgets.

Simple solutions can start in the thousands of dollars and can rapidly build to 10’s of thousands depending on the complexity of the individual’s requirements. As well, there is almost always a way to “step into” a solution by making a first move and then follow that up with a second move at a later date. As an example, an international Limited Liability Company (LLC) can provide excellent privacy and protection for a number of scenarios and is relatively easy to setup and very cost effective. So it makes a great first step for private asset protection. That same LLC could be moved into an irrevocable trust, the ultimate defense structure but much more costly, at a later date; saving what are much higher costs for the international trust structure initially.
